May is National Stroke Awareness Month so it only seemed fitting that we select Stroke Awareness as our web theme for May 2010. We are very excited about everything we have in store for this month!
To start the month off right I wanted to pass along some info that I received from a Patrick Ayers, executive director of the American Stroke Foundation.
The 2011 Doctor of Physical Therapy Class of Rockhurst University is sponsoring a Run/Walk benefiting the American Stroke Foundation.
As future physical therapists, one of the goals of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Class 2011 is to spread the awareness and benefits of physical therapy and to encourage our community of all ages to live healthy active lifestyles.
They are planning for 250-500 adults and children - people of all ages - to participate in the inaugural 5k/10k Run/Walk on May 8th, 2010. The event will include 5k/10k Run/Walk, a Stroke Survivors Walk, and health screening and informational booths to encourage physical activity of all ages. 75% of proceeds will benefit the American Stroke Foundation and 25% will go to the Rockhurst Physical Therapy Class of 2011.
